Gerry and Cindy (Knutson) Lycholat have both completed a 16-hour training course and passed the required test to become Certified Green Professionals (CGP).  The Certified Green Professionals (CGP) program recognizes new home builders, remodelers, and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes.

Both Gerry Lycholot and Debbie Berndt have completed 8 hours of Wisconsin-required training and have passed the test for their Certified Lead Paint Renovator certificate.  Congrats Debbie and Gerry!

Cindy Knutson-Lycholat, CGR,  CAPS, CGP started in the remodeling business with her father in 1977.  Today she's built a big legacy of her own.


Cindy Knutson-Lycholat, CGR, CAPS, CGP, laughs when she remembers her first assignment working for her father and uncle at the residential construction company they owned, Knutson Bros. of West Allis, Wis.   She was asked to wear short bib overalls, to smile and greet potential customers at a local home show.

Suffice it to say that, over time, her role in the company greatly expanded beyond this humble beginning. She took drafting classes and eventually began turning out kitchens, room additions and other projects for several years. Ultimately, her father, Norvin "Charlie" Knutson took her as a full apprentice, training Cindy in estimating and sales.  This was a big step, says Knutson-Lycholat because it took a lot for her father to allow family members into the business at all.

Cindy Knutson Lycholat, CGR, CAPS of Knutson Bros II, LLC in East Troy, WI has been accepted as a candidate Master Builder Certification by the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA).

The Wisconsin Builders Association administers the Master Builders Certification program to futher professionalism and expertise in the Wisconsin home building industry.  The WBA's Master Builder Certification (MBC) is a voluntary certification program for Association members.  The purpose of the program is to create a means by which WBA members can differentiate themselves from other industry practitioners in the State.

East Troy, Wisc.- Cindy Knutson-Lycholat recently did a live remote radio show with KHOW 630 AM in Denver, CO about the Certified-Aging-in-Place (CAPS) program developed by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and AARP, and she would like to share her insight on this topic with area residents on how to develop appropriate changes to your home as needed.

“Certified-Aging-in-Place Specialists are trained to assist homeowners and/or caregivers to develop and plan for the changes that are needed in a home under various situations,” said Knutson-Lycholat. “For example, Mrs. Jones may have a friend who has MS and a sister who just had a knee replaced.”

Because it could be difficult for the friend and sister to visit, Certified-Aging-in-Place Specialists can advise Mrs. Jones about what needs to be done. “Mrs. Jones can make her home more accessible to her friend and sister by creating a no step front entrance, adding a railing and changing the flooring from thick carpeting to a wood floor.”

Another challenge that many people face is accommodating the need for a wheelchair and what do to make the hallways widened and make the bath wheelchair accessible. “People can be reassured that there are professionals available to help when these life changes occur,” said Knutson-Lycholat. “AARP endorses the CAPS contractor as a quality contractor and every CAPS designee can be found on the AARP website.

East Troy, Wisc.-The annual Remodeling Show was held in Las Vegas, October 8-13, 2007, and Cindy Knutson-Lycholat and her husband Gerry Lycholat of Knutson Bros. II, LLC are excited to share all the exciting new things they saw on the show floor and learned in seminars related to the remodeling industry.

“It was great show,” said Cindy Knutson-Lycholat. “We spent three days in seminars related to our business, and we are especially excited about some of the new design ideas we can incorporate into our customer’s kitchens.”

In addition to the ideas gained through seminars, there were great new products that people looking to update or remodel are going to enjoy. “We saw an aluminum combination door product that comes in custom colors, it is affordable, and it comes in a color scheme other than the traditional white, brown or burgundy.” said Knutson Lycholat. “Another interesting new product was a steel product that can be used in place of convert post holes to support free standing railings, such as down a set of steps to a lake or a deck.”

And, for those ready for the latest technology… get ready for a refrigerator that will be computerized to write your grocery list as you use things, send it to the store and place the order. How easy would that be?
